SihanoukVille's Beach Resorts August and September 2008

Not much news on SihanoukVille's Resorts this rainy season.

Sokha Beach Resort has been doing O.K. hosting a few conferences and a fair occupancy rate. They are pretty well booked full for the next few Winter seasons already. The much bigger Sokha Resort planned for Ocheteaul Beach has started construction, and will be ready in a few years.

Independence Hotel is also doing well. The beach side bar is adding a kitchen, and plans are for some bungalow style rooms on the beach.

Mirax Island Resort ????

The Beach Club Resort on Ocheteaul Beach is nearing completion of a couple dozen more rooms, and will be expanding the restaurant offerings in the near future.

Two additions to the "mini" resorts soon, will be Aquarius, behind the Golden Sands Hotel, a small resort style hotel, and the existing Beach Road Hotel will be added to the list after completion of a few dozen new rooms and a swimming pool in the coming months.

Bridge construction is now visible from Victory and Hawaii beaches. The new bridge will link the mainland from the new marina to Snake Island, which is scheduled for a complete makeover.

More islands, which most people didn't know even existed here, have been leased for long time periods for additional resort building.

New resort building update

Sokha's resort construction behind the golf course has slowed down a bit. This could be due to the $1 Billion new Sokha resort just starting on Bokor Mountain. First, they need to take 3 years to build a 30 million dollar road to the top. The Sihanoukville effort has graded the land that was once hills and ponds for the abandoned golf course.

The bridge to Snake (Russian) Island hasn't been started yet. But there are rumours.

The marina on Hawaii Beach is slowly nearing completion. Several of the condo's have been sold.

No news on any construction on the islands, but they have mostly been bought out by large consortiums, with promised golf courses, airports, casinos, race tracks, and the like.

it for now.
